Starting Over

Well today was that day.

Instead of feeling embarrassed and lame about being off the "Health & Fitness" bandwagon, I felt excited to get back on.

Today's mantra: Every day is a new chance to start over.

So, I did.

I had a leisurely breakfast, drank my coffee and made a grocery list for the week. Then, the craziest thing happened...

I RAN
And it was epic!

Yep, I ran in the cold and the wind, but it felt awesome. Sure I was out of breath and slow, but I still felt awesome. I even left the Garmin at home so pace wouldn't even been a thought in my head.

The run high was promptly tanked after my Sunday afternoon Target run. At least half of Cedar Rapids shops Target North on Sunday afternoons and yet I still go then.

Once I got home the cook and prep-a-thon began.

I made:
That chili was DAMN delicious by the way! I had to skip the avocado because mine weren't ripe yet. Tragedy!

Weekly Goal: LOG EVERYTHING! Workouts! Food!

It may just be me, but I find that I am WAYYY more successful if I track what I'm doing. Something about typing "Snickers Bar" into the DailyPlate really kills your buzz. Along the same lines, seeing the big 0 miles/ week on the DailyMile sucks ass.

Not this week damn it!

Special thanks to Kim for writing me into her bad ass training plan and for also finally explaining, in dumb people words, how to execute a tempo run.

Are you feeling optimistic about your fitness goals for 2013?

  1. Good for you! I wish I wouldn't have wussed out and had these farging tests that had to be scored and entered by tomorrow. I start serious marathon training Feb. 18. Long run Sundays...I'll be on you to go with me, even for part of the way. Otherwise, it is going to be oh-so-lonely....

  6. Loved this post. I am one of those 'I will start on Monday' like Monday has some sort of magical properties that will result in me eating better and sticking to my fitness goals. Do it today- that is what I have to tell myself- Just do it today, not tomorrow, not Monday, etc. And I am making this chili. I am slowly transitioning from vegetarian to trying to be more vegan- though my cheese addiction is hard to break- so am happy to have a new recipe!

    1. Yeah I'm about 70% vegan. I still eat eggs, greek yogurt and goat cheese. I just don't think I'll ever give those babies up! Have you seen the foodie blog Oh She Glows? She is my favorite vegan blogger!

  8. I've been running more lately. It would barely be possible to run less that I was. No real goals yet...I'm feeling weirdly aimless right now.

    1. I am kind of loving being aimless without a big race on the calendar. That shit is freeing!

  11. It sounds like your week is off to a great start! Running without a watch is the best way to run some days.

  12. Our kitchen is still reeling from the mess but I consider the hummus and soup that you made me to be worth it.
